Karen Walker is one of New Zealand’s best known fashion designers. Her style, described as eccentrically elegant, has established a following around the world for her ready-to-wear, eyewear, jewellery, bags and fragrance. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Adele, Lorde, Priyanka Chopra, Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga count themselves amongst the formidable roster of celebrity fans. Karen Walker spoke to The Wag about her dog Laika.
TW: What breed is your dog?
Australian Labradoodle
TW: How old is she?
About eight years old.
TW: What is her personality like?
Calm.Â
TW: Does she have any particular tricks or talents?
She’s ball mad and will do anything for a tennis ball.
 TW: Any not so good traits?
As above, if there’s a tennis ball nearby, she loses all ability to respond to any command except fetch.
TW: What are some of her favourite places to go, and things to do?
She loves any beach or park. Our usual summer spot is Aotea Great Barrier Island and she adores her twice a day runs on Medlands Beach.
TW: What is the best things about having a dog?
They put you first.
TW: What are you working on at the moment that you can share with The Wag?
We’re always thinking about lots of different things at once – right now we’re working on in season items you’ll see very soon right out to items that will be in store in 18 months’ time.
