A well known dog rescue charity has changed its name in a move it says will better reflect the work it does.
Chained Dog Rehabilitation & Rehoming NZ will now be known as The Dog Rescue Project.
In a post on social media it said the change marked an exciting new chapter.
“While our name and look are evolving, our mission remains exactly the same. We’re still 100% committed to helping as many dogs as possible live the safe, happy lives they deserve through our work with SPCA, local councils, vets, rescues, and private owners.”
The Auckland-based dog rescue was established to work with owners of life-chained, neglected and/or abused dogs to help improve their lives, and provide the tools so they can become responsible dog owners.

It also rehabilitates and re-homes any dogs relinquished into their care, and works with many council animal shelters across New Zealand.
It said its work had grown beyond its humble beginnings.
“While freeing dogs from life on the chain remains a key part of what we do, we now focus equally on prevention, advocacy, and ensuring dogs don’t just survive — they thrive.”
“Through desexing initiatives like Desex in the City and Too Many Puppies, we’re working to reduce the number of unwanted dogs entering already overwhelmed rescues.
“Our Fix Your Friends program brings this support directly into communities, making education and support services more accessible where it’s needed most.” it said.
A new logo and brand was developed by graphic designer Maria Bush, who said it was an honour to work on the project.
“So excited to finally share the rebrand I designed for The Dog Rescue Project ,a cause close to my heart and a team doing incredible work.” she said in a social media post.
The announcement was met with excitement on line, with followers giving the change the thumbs up.
“You are so good at what you do. On behalf on the dogs you rescue- Thank you” said one.
Another said “Love the new name and everything you all do, I support when I can. Thank you!”
“Can’t wait to see all the amazing work continue. Truly an incredible rescue helping in so many ways.” said another follower.
The charity said despite the rebrand, it was business as usual.
“You’ll continue to find us doing what we do best: rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need across New Zealand. You can find us at thedogrescueproject.org.nz — same website, same passion, new name.”
