What breed is your dog, and how old are they?
Perry is a Sheepadoodle. Half Standard Poodle, Half Old English Sheepdog. I know I know – not an AKC “breed”, but he is the Best in Show in my biased eyes. He is 5 years old (that went way too fast).
Why did you decide to create an Instagram account?
I thought it would be a fun way to share Perry’s antics with the world. He is so beautiful and has so much silliness and personality. I know friends and family don’t always want to be bombarded with the “look at this cute picture of my dog sleeping” messages, but there is definitely a population of people out there that would love to see that! Also, it makes me happy to have a place where I can share his cuteness and joy with others.
What sort of content do you share?
I like to think that I share relatable dog content. I don’t believe in posting overly edited or AI-generated photos. What you see in the photos is reality. Life in NYC is a bit chaotic and dirty and unexpected. Add a dog into that mix, and you never know what you are going to get! I share things that make me laugh, and I really hope they make other people laugh too.
What sort of posts are the most popular for you and why do you think that is?
Some of the most popular posts, honestly, are random photos snapped where there was little strategy behind it. It was just a matter of we thought that he looked cute 🙂 That IG algorithm never ceases to amaze.
Where are your followers from?
All over the world! Definitely a concentration in the US and in the sheepadoodle community. It really is amazing how dogs bring people together!
How do you promote the account?
Mainly just word of mouth. We don’t actively promote the account. Our good friends @stevie.and.smudge have made us some adorable Perry stickers, sweatshirts, water bottles, and other merch!
What are the best things about running your Instagram account?
Perry’s Instagram account has definitely allowed us to meet people from around the world that I would have never otherwise met. We have made some wonderful friendships, connected with amazing companies and brands, and learned so much about dog wellness and animal rescue. Plus, it’s super fun to share Perry with everyone.
Are there any challenges?
Having so many cute Perry photos on my camera roll that I get decision paralysis about what to post!
What are your goals for the Instagram account?
I would love to more actively share adoptable/rescue animals on Perry’s instagram to help more animals get loving homes. Working with some brands and meetingThe Dogist would be nice too!
