A catwalk in the glitzy GH On The Park in New York is a long way from the streets of Korea.
But that is the rags to riches story of a pomeranian named Honey Bunch.
She was among 15 dog models who took to the runway for this year’s annual Pet Gala.
The event is the brainchild of internationally acclaimed pet couturier, fashion designer and animal advocate Anthony Rubio.
The designer replicates a selection of the outfits worn by celebrities at the Met Gala two weeks earlier.
The event also raises funds for the city’s AKC Museum of the Dog, home to the world’s leading collection of dog-inspired art.
Honey Bunch was dressed in an outfit inspired by the one worn by singer Chappell Roan at the Met Gala, and paired with US model Sohelka Lopez.
But life wasn’t always haute courtier. Just a few years ago Honey Bunch was facing an uncertain future, unwanted and unloved in Korea.
She was brought to the US by New York’s Waggingtails Dog Rescue, then adopted by John and Gale Ricany at the age of 4 years old in 2023.
Gale told The Wag that Honey Bunch made her debut as a dog model at NYFW 2024 for Anthony Rubio Designs.
“I have known Anthony since 2010 through the New York Pet Fashion Events Community supporting Animal Rescues and Animal Charities.
“Honey as all of my furbabies have been for the past several years exclusive to Anthony Rubio Designs,” she said.
It didn’t take long for the pomeranian to learn how to strut her stuff.
“When it comes to her modeling, Honey is a natural.
“She is at home with me all the time and she learns from canine couture sister Gracie who also models exclusively for Anthony Rubio Designs,” Gale told The Wag.
Life on the catwalk is showing no signs of slowing down for Honey Bunch.
“I expect Honey will be at New York Fashion Week this upcoming September 2025 for Anthony Rubio Designs.”
